About us
All Harwood, Horwood, Harrod, Harod, Herward, Herod, and similar surname males in America, the British Isles, and around the world, are cordially invited to take the Y-DNA test and join this new Harwood Family History Y-DNA Study. Female Harwood descendants and male Harwood descendants not having the Harwood surname are also cordially invited to participate and join in advancing the Study by encouraging their Harwood-surname brother, uncle, cousin, etc., to submit a simple cheek-swab test.
NOTE: This Study may have funds available from time to time to contribute toward testing costs for certain Harwood lines not previously tested and for special lines where a second test is being sought. Please inquire if a group contribution is available for your line.
Generally, the more markers tested, the better the bang for the buck in tracing detail. The starter 37-marker Y-DNA test is a very useful test. The 37m has enough marker detail to avoid false positive matches and provide minimal specific detail sufficient to tell whether two matching testers are probably related. The 67 and 111-marker tests provide progressively more marker data than the 37-marker at a smaller per-marker cost and achieving greater accuracy for long-range tracing back into Guittard family Y-DNA history. The most powerful and most accurate test for long-range tracing is the Big-Y 700, which can be bought on special or holiday sales from time to time at a substantial discount. But we're always glad to have a 37-marker, and it can typically be upgraded at a substantial discount as a Christmas or birthday present to yourself without the need for a new sample.
