This project is for everyone with the Hand surname in their lineage. In order to help untangle the various Hand lines, we encourage all males carrying the Hand surname to take a Y-DNA test. The Y-111 is recommended.
Otherdays.com has done a surname distribution study in Ireland. They based their study on Griffith's Valuation (1847-1864) and found only 282 (head of household) Hands in Ireland.
They were in 22 of the 32 counties of Ireland and were heavily concentrated in 6 of these 22. Monaghan (21%),Meath (20%),Dublin (17%),Louth (12%),Roscommon (6%)and Cavan (7%).
