About us

There are a number of Hamman Families who settled in NE Indiana in the mid 19th century, mainly coming from NE Ohio and Pennsylvania. Spelling variants included Hamon, Hammon, Homman, Howman, Haman and Hammond. The project began to test possible suspected connections between some of these families, but has now expanded to welcome all Hamman descendants. Because the y-chromosome is passed on only from father to son, Y-DNA participants must be a patrilineal descendant (male to male to male) from an original Hamman ancestor.   For more details on the patrilineages and DNA results of our different participants, please also see the following website:  http://www.brian-hamman.com/Hamman_Y_chromosomeResults.htm      Participants with Hamman (and close spelling variants) ancestry who took the Family Finder (autosomal) DNA test are also welcome to join.
