Goals for the Hain, Haine, Haines, Hains, etc. Families Project:

- To identify which family branches are related to each other
- To confirm paper-trail evidence and traditional genealogies
- To help to focus further documentary research
- To identify the likely origin of each genetic family
- To help people with the surname in question establish to which genetic family belong (and to piggyback onto established genealogies)
- To study the evolution of the surname from its earliest origins to its present day forms
- To document and publish the results along the way so that others can derive the maximum benefit from the project
