About us
In the summer of 1710, George and Veronica Hains arrived in New York along with some 3,000 Palatinates from Germany. They had spent most of the past year in London waiting for their fate in the hand of the English. These Palatinates had all left Germany at the encouragement of the English for a better life in America.
George and Veronica spent thirteen years in colonial New York where they suffered many hardships and were unable to purchase farmland for themselves. In 1723 they gained permission to settle in Berks Co. Pennsylvania where they were treated better by the William Penn family and where they were finally allowed to purchase farmland.
The family became very prosperous farmers, cultivating this fertile farmland in Berks Co. George and Veronica owned over 1,600 acres before his death in 1743. Their eight children and grand children fanned out from Pennsylvania, southward to Virginia, then westward across the Allegany’s into the frontiers where they found new and cheaper farmlands on which to raise their families.
Our DNA project will identify the Hains family branches scattered throughout the U.S. back to George and Veronica Hains. Then confirm George and Veronica DNA links back to Germany.
