About us

The purpose of the Hagy - Hegi DNA Project is to discover and document relationships among Hagy - Hegi families through genetic testing.

The project uses Y-chromosome testing, comparing the uniqueY-STR segments that fathers pass intact to their sons, which remain stable fromgeneration to generation, with only minor, infrequent changes.  Thereforethe DNA sample must be provided by a male Hagy - Hegi with an unbroken Hagy - Hegi  line.  Females may participate by recruiting a Hagy - Hegi  male relative(grandfather, father, uncle, cousin, or nephew) to provide the requisite DNA asa representative of her line.

The Y-DNA results section provides a place for Hagy - Hegi familymembers to see their Y-DNA results, and how those results compare to othertested men of this surname.  Comparisons of Y-DNA results will make it possible toverify or disprove existing paper genealogies, and to determine relationshipswhere they exist.

The Project  will also attempt to identify the deepancestry of tested participants through haplogroup testing.  This canreveal national and regional patterns of migration and settlement in prehistory.
