About us
The Hagy - Hegi DNA Project was started at Family Tree DNA in March 2006, with one participant---a Hagy whose genealogy was traced to Hans Conrad Hagi, born c1603, in Kappel am Albis, Switzerland, and ultimately to Hagi men born before 1500 in the same area. Since 2006, a good number of Hagy - Hegi men have joined the project, including quite a few from other branches of the genetic tree of the family.
The HEGI - lines (Haplo G) all has their origine from Switzerland: Wiesendangen, Zürich, Pfaffnau, Roggwil, Villmergen, Zell. Although these lines has different YDNA-results, all HEGI can only derive from the (VON) HEGI line of Castle HEGI. This line unofficially ends in 1493 when HUGO VON HEGI died, but it is known that some of his ancestors (including himself) has illegitimid children and/or relatives that are not present in old documents between 1225 and 1493.
The project uses Y-chromosome testing, Therefore the DNA sample must be provided by a male Hagy - Hegi (or variant spelling), with an unbroken male line.
The Hagy-Hegi DNA Project includes all spellings of the name, including: Haegi, Haga, Hage, Hagee, Hagey, Hagi, Hagie, Heagy, Hege, Hegi, Hegie, Hegy, and others.
