About us
In 2002, Sharon Gullett published her Gullett family research in the book, "Gullett Pioneers and Their Descendants, 1671-2002." She had been able to accurately trace her Gullett ancestry back to John Gullett, senior, of Dorchester County, Maryland. This John Gullett was born about 1726. His property became a part of Kent County, Delaware. His children were John JR, Abraham, Isaac, Joshua, and Rachel. Many Gullett descendants trace their ancestries back to the family. However, this family was not the immigrant Gullett family. Sharon Gullett had located earlier Gulletts that she thought might be the ancestors of John Gullett, Senior.
William Gullett (Senior) and wife Susanna Mills are found in Somerset County, Maryland as early as 1671. It is thought that the surname may have also been spelled as Gullick or Gullinck. It is thought that he had a son named William Gullett (Junior) 27 Apr 1678. There is also a William Gullett (III) born about 1706 in Somerset County, Maryland, who seems to be the son of William, JR.
It was determined that DNA testing might be a way to determine if Gullett men who descend from one of the William Gulletts mentioned above, match the Gullett men who descend from one of the sons of John Gullett, senior, mentioned above.
However, we invite ALL men with the Gullett surname, or a similarly spelled version of it, to participate in our Gullett surname DNA project. This would also include men with the Gillette surname (or variant spellings of it), Gullinck or Gullick surnames (or variant spellings of these) or similar names that could be connected to Gullett.
Project participants are encouraged to email the project administrators with their Gullett or surname ancestry, going back to the earliest known ancestor.
