Grass Surname Project

About us

This project was originally set up to research the roots of my paternal line ancestor, Henry Grass. He was born in 1764 in the village of Brandon in Suffolk, England. His mother is recorded in his baptism record as a widow, and he is recorded as "Base Born". This project hopes to eventually identify Henry's father through yDNA testing. An intermediate aim of this project will be to confirm a haplotype for Henry Grass, based on testing his male-line descendants. I note that there are a number of other DNA testers that have the surname Grass, or similar names. The surname Grass (or similar) has, I believe, many different roots and I am happy for those members to join this project and hope I can assist you. If you are interested in the research of this name then I have set up an Facebook group to facilitate discussion (https://www.facebook.com/groups/642778826168213/) January 2021 Last Year I published some research on the early Grass families in Brandon, Suffolk, England. Based on the availlable Parish registers there are 6 Grass family groups. These groups are possibly/probably related, although there is currently no evidence to support this. The six groups are: 1. Henry Grass (b.1764 Brandon, Suffolk, d.1845) & Dinah Aylmer 2. Matthew Grass & Mary Green (m. 14th Feb 1779) 2.1 John Grass & Elizabeth Hubbard (m. 24th Sept. 1801) 3. Matthew Grass (c.1792-1864) & Susan/Susannah Enifer (1793-1882) 4. Henry Grass & Sarah Lloyd or Loyd 5. James Grass & Emma Edwards 6. John or possibly William Grass The complete research is published at: https://learnalittleeveryday.wordpress.com/2020/11/24/on-the-origins-of-the-grass-family-surname-in-the-brandon-area-of-suffolk/
