I am new to genetic genealogy. On Ancestry, I have 58 matches to descendants of Adam C. Gann, who usually is referred to as Adam Carter Gann. How many of these matches to have have to prove a paper connection to before I can safely "claim" Adam C. Gann as my ancestor's father? I have a little bit of documentation linking my Jacob Gann to Adam in the same time and location, but nothing that specifically says Adam is his father. If you can point me toward any online articles that explain how to take Ancestry Thru-Lines and "prove" the link to the next generation would be greatly appreciated.

Please forgive the delay, Lewis. Where would you like me to post my tree? If you have an Ancestry account, you can see my lineage there, but I would be happy to send you something specifically to your email if you like. My email address is My ancestry tree is called Pattison Speake family tree.

Also, I am aware that claiming Carter for the initial C is quite unfounded. I only mention it because he seems to be referred to this way a lot and many people seem to recognize him as such, even though the middle name has not been proven. Hence, why I switched from saying Adam Carter Gann to Adam C. Gann in my message above from May 12.

Our Dad Was Willie Jiles Gan born Gan in Purdon Texas. Name Gann adopted in 1942 by Army. His father was Osey or Osie Gan also adoped named Gann in WWI Army. Born in Purdon Texas, Osey's Dad was William Carroll Gan. His obituary says born in Arkansas, but can find nothing proving he was born there. I have found records he possibly was born and raised in Itawamba Mississippi. Came to Corsiciana in 1872 and married my Great Grandmother Sallie Ann Farmer in 1873. But can't find his birth. He is hard to trace.

Richard Gann Richard lived in Colorado until his death in a plane crash in 2004. He is a nephew of Paul Gann of Stone Mountain, GA. This family says their immigrant ancestor lived in London prior to moving to the United States sometime in the 1800s.
