Le projet Gagnon a comme objectif de rassembler en un seul groupe les descendants portant le nom de famille Gagnon. Tant les Gagnon canadien-français que ceux de France sont les bienvenus, ainsi que certaines branches des îles britanniques portant des noms similaires (Gannon). Les Gonyer/Gonia peuvent également être intéressés par notre projet; ils peuvent descendre d’un Gagnon ayant quitté le Canada au XIXe siècle et dont le nom aurait évolué vers sa présente variante. Un test du marqueur Y est nécessaire pour pouvoir y être admis. À ce jour, le croisement de certains BigY laissent à penser que l'ancêtre commun de tous les Gagnon de Tourouvre et de Mortagne au Perche (France) aurait vécu au XIVe siècle. D'autres analyses doivent être menées pour arriver à une conclusion définitive.
The Gagnon project is a place where different variants of the name can gather (Gagnon, Gannon, Gonia, Gonyer, etc). Both French Canadians descendants of the three brothers Mathurin, Jean, Pierre and from their distant cousin Robert can compare their Y dna markers. Gagnon from present-day France can also join our project. Other origins of the name (Irish or else) can also be interested to share their Y marker with this group. So far, it seems as if the common ancestor to all French-Canadian Gagnon lived in the old french province of Perche, in the 1350s. More data will be needed in order to confirm this theory.
