About us

In the FTDNA G-Z6748 Haplogroup Project, we are exploring the descendants of this Iron Age ancestor.  Most of the currently known descendants are coming through a Early Middle Age ancestor who had an abundant posterity in southernmost coastal Wales.

Descendant lines are on the following principle branches:

R-FGC486 only known by a small cluster of participants surname Bird, who may trace back to 1600s Broxton, England.

R-Y132505 which includes a small Evans cluster and Griffis/Griffith cluster, known as Hap'group G (M201) - Genetic Family C in the FTDNA Griffith Surname Project (verified at R-BY211678), as well as a larger Williams cluster, known as Williams Group 46 in the FTDNA Williams Surname Project (verified at G-FT119236).

R-FT21948 is the largest branch. It includes a large Wigington (and variant Wigginton) cluster, known as Haplogroup G in the FTDNA Wigington Surname Project (verified at G-FT68913), a large Jenkins cluster, known as GP J in the FTDNA Jenkins Surname Project (verified at G-Z40861), a large Williams cluster, known as Williams Group 17 in the FTDNA Williams Surname Project (verified at G-BY94332), a very large Griffin/Griffith cluster, known as Hap'group G (M201) - Genetic Family A in the FTDNA Griffith Surname Project (which appears to include multiple branches, including ones verified at G-FT189276 and G-FT349294), a small Thomas cluster (currently seen at G-FT349294), the small Howard cluster, known as Haplogroup G - Lineage 03 in the FTDNA Howard Surname Project (verified at G-FT213877 and downstream), and the large Jones cluster, known as G-M201 - Family Group 1 in the FTDNA Jones Surname Project (currently seen at G-FT21948, but needing more Big Y participants).

R-FT204085 is a small branch, currently only having a Walter/Walters cluster, known as Hg G (M201) in the FTDNA Walters Surname Project

Additional branches will be added when the following clusters have at least one participant get Big Y:  a Jones cluster, known as G-M201 - Family Group 2 in the FTDNA Jones Surname Project; a second Walter/Walters cluster, currently grouped with the above Hg G (M201) in the FTDNA Walters Surname Project, but showing STR evidence of being a unique branch; a Lewis cluster, known as "Haplogroup G - Genetic Family descended from Thomas Lewis, b. c. 1640, Peterchurch, Herefordshire, England" in the FTDNA Lewis Surname Project.

If you test positive for any of these SNPs, or are seeing them in your Y-Matches, please feel free to join.
