About us

Project Description Members of the Marrou and Fortune families departed Hautes-Alpes Department, France in 1890 and in 1895. They were from Le Saix, but some family members were from the surrounding villages, such as Chabestan, Sigottier, Les Beaux, Chateauneuf D'Oze, la Batie-Montsaleon, Veynes and Serres. Their first homes in the USA were in the small village of Ottine, Texas and later in other areas of Gonzales and Karnes Counties, Texas. Today the immigrants' descendants are mainly in Texas, but some have ventured to other states. The objective of this project is to find family members throughout the world and to add them to the known family tree members in the USA and in the villages of the Hautes-Alpes Department. We recommend the Y-DNA37 test and the mtDNAPlus test for this project. Additional Background The earliest known immigrants of the Marrou family to Texas were the children of Dominique Marrou(1806) and Marianne Andre(1816). Emmigrated in 1890: Dominique(1846-le Saix) m. Marie Pelloux(1847-Lyon) Frances(1847-le Saix); Antoine(1854) Emmigrated in 1895: Jean(1859-le Saix); Marie(1844-le Saix) widow of Aime' Victor Fortune(1834-le Saix) The paternal Marrou family was traced to Pierre Marrou(abt 1660-le Saix) m. Catherine Candy. The maternal Andre' family was traced to Jean Andre'(d 1827-le Saix) m. Marianne Marrou. The Fortune family was traced to Vincent Fortune(abt 1728) m.Marquerite Qusched. The family trees of the immigrants' descendants in Texas are known to the present, however a few blanks require information. This project is to fill in those blanks and to complete other lines that originated from our ancestors and their siblings. These other lines would have originations in Hautes-Alpes Department villages, such as, Le Saix, Chabestan, Sigottier, Les Beaux, Chateauneuf D'Oze, la Batie-Montsaleon,Veynes and Serres.
