This project uses Y-DNA to create genetic families who have ancestral connections to New England, the early American colonies, Canada, France and the British Isles. There are multiple Fountain paternal lineages. Currently, four distinct branches have emerged some of which are strongly tied to particular documented ancestral families. 1. The Solomon/John Fountain branch. One of the clearest American Fountain branches. 2. The Pierre Fontaine branch. A French branch distantly related to the Joab/Jonathan Fountain branch. 3. Joab/Jonathan Fountain: Another American branch that points to an early English Fountain immigrant. 4. Théophile Fountaine/Stephen Fountain: A separate Atlantic/British Isles branch. Surname spelling does not determine genetic family. Therefore we include the following surname variants: Fountaine, Fontaine, de la Fontaine, Fontayne Autosomal DNA results are also welcome.
