Y-DNA

We now have four members in particular who all share the same haplotype R-M269 and all have about a 50% to 90% chance of sharing a common ancestor between 12 and 24 generations ago (roughly between 500 to 1000 years).  Although this may seem like a long time ago, Maurice de Prendergast, and his son Gerald lived during this time frame, 1100’s to 1200’s A.D. The biggest surprise is that although my own Fitzmaurice connection is through the Kerry line from my maternal grandfather, my Y DNA corresponds closely with 3 members from the Prendergast group.  I compared at the 25 marker level, which for this distant time frame seemed to be the most relevant.  My Wynn ancestors originated in Wales over 400 years ago.  Maurice de Prendergast was also from Wales
.  His family came from at the time of the Norman Conquests in 1066 A.D. Prendergast first came to in about 1169, and it was his younger son Gerald who lived in and became the ancestor to this branch of the Fitzmaurice family.  Therefore, if these three members from the Prendergast group are truly descended from Maurice de Prendergast, and they and I share a common ancestor through this line, it would have to be a common Prendergast ancestor in for before 1169 A.D.
