Hello Faris Family, My brother Glen's results are now in. I am his sister Carol Faris, his kit # is 528214. I am totally lost trying to understand his results or where he fits in.

Rita, have you looked at the chart that lists all the members of the project? Most of them list their oldest known Farris there in the chart. Carol lists Glen's as "George Faris b. 1786 and d. 18?? Leitrim, Ireland". (You can find the charts if you click on "DNA results" in the upper left of this page, under the photo of the ocean.) Roberta

My grandfather George Washington Farris and his brother Samuel Smoot Farris were born to an unknown George Farris and Lucinda Ellen Harryman Crandal Farris and they lived in Howard County near Lisbon "Happy Hollow” and Chariton County near Brunswick Missouri.

Hi Rita ... hi group. A while back In reviewing Rita's Carl's test results, I noticed that they match to one person in the turquoise subgroup and thus I have moved Carl out of the R1b limbo subgroup and into the turquoise subgroup - it's not the strongest match in the world, but I do feel it might be helpful to have Carl in the turquoise subgroup! Here's hoping that we can put our combined minds to figuring out the ID of Rita's great-grandfather George Farris!!?? Rita, do you know the origins of your great-uncle Samuel's middle name of Smoot?? Is it/could it be a family name from an earlier female ancestor?

I think it was a nickname as his given name was Samuel middle name possibly Sterling????

I went back to his WWI Draft Card he used Sterling and Samuel interchangeably occasionally Smoot so I believe his name to have Samuel Sterling Farris

Confusing eh?! Looks like Smoot should be "Smoot" :)

Hi Rita, I've noticed before that Carl had quite a few Wilcox matches and was going to suggest to you that it might be interesting for you to join the Wilcox yDNA group to see if there was a "fit" there. https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/wilcox/about I didn't suggest it before since you've indicated that you are somewhat uncertain about what DNA results mean and I worried it might confuse you .... but I do think it would be very interesting for you to see Carl's results matched (or not matched) within this Wilcox group! As I said in an earlier post, I made the decision to move Carl's results out of the R1b limbo group into the turquoise R1b group even though there are only 2 weak matches in the turquoise group. If you find Carl's yDNA results have a lot more stronger matches in the Wilcox group then .... perhaps it might be a case that one of your ancestors was born to a Wilcox father, who died and then his widow remarried a Farris and the stepchildren took the Farris name???? [Anyone who has Jeffrey Ferris as a common ancestor] Has any progress/research been found to prove whether Richard Dè Ferrérs is indeed Jeffrey's Father or is it still unknown who his father is?

Sweet so that means they are related then? Cause if it's true then that yours and my paternal side go back to the Norman Conquest as well as placing us with the Rollo of Denmark's Vikings who settled in Normandy, France hundreds of years prior to the Norman Conquest of England.
