We recently discovered a fair amount of good DNA connections to a Fred Edgar. Fred Edgar was living in Dakota Territory in the 1870's. He was a trader and scout, plus ran stores in Sturgis and Yankton. He fathered 2 children with a Native American woman of the Standing Rock Sioux. Fred apparently disappeared with around $18,000 that was not his. This happened in 1879. Fred Edgar is somehow connected with a Beatrix Jemima Edgar who was born in Lambeth, England in 1834 to Robert and Mary Edgar. The Edgars ended up settling in Brooklyn, New York. I am trying to figure out if Fred Edgar changed his name and moved to another state since he was wanted for stealing the money. Since our family has never heard of this surname in our family history before and our surname is King and we have NO DNA connections to any Kings, it is all such a mystery. Who is Fred Edgar??

I have just received my brother's Y-DNA and am looking for family. The earliest Edgar I am aware of is Benjamin William Edgar who came to the US from Ireland about 1820 or so. His wife's name is Elizabeth. They settled in Norfolk, St. Lawrence Co, NY
My great grandmother was born Ella Bell Edger. Her parents William b. 1814 and Amanda Edger. According to the census, Williams parents came to America from Ireland. They lived in Grant County KY. Not much luck tracing William's Family line to Ireland or brothers and sisters.

I descend from George Edgar m. Elizabeth, who likely came down the mountains from Orange Co. VA to Augusta Co. to finally end in Bedford Co. VA, where his will, dated in 1765 names his son and my relative, James Edgar, as his exer. James married 1) Mary Mason and 2) Pheby Wright. He had 10 children. If you are of this line or interested in this family, please contact me. Thank you. For ladies, I did put James Edgar as a DAR Patriot.
