About us

One primary goal of mine is the identification of the East Galway-South Roscommon Uí Maine Donoghues, reputed to be 'related to the Kellys of Uí Maine'.

The publicly-viewable area of the Kelly project protects living people's identities by using their kit number code and Paternal Ancestor Name. The 22 Big Ys of the Uí Maine Kellys, and the matches of the non-Big Y-tested members of that
common ancestor-related group, are all R-Z2961 > R-ZP75. No Donaghue who has tested with FTDNA seems to be on that branch, though there are plenty on the other, Connachta, branch of the greater R-Z39589 branch. This does not
mean there are no Uí Maine Donaghues already tested, it just means that the hypothesis of Donaghues' literal relatedness to the Uí Maine Kellys seems to in error; having been falsified by the demonstration of non-relatedness. Uí Maine encompassed
more Y-DNA lineages than the O'Kelly's R-M269 >... DF13 > Z39589 > Z2961 > ZP75 >... lineage.

Kelly & Donaghue surnames originated after 900 AD, but the common relatedness was about 2000 BC.
So what are we left with? What is our new working hypothesis regarding the O'Donaghues of Uí Maine?
