This project is open to both men and women of any surname whose Mitotree haplogroup is U5a1h+16189 and whose ancestors lived in early 1800's Kentucky. At that time present day Kentucky also then included West Virginia and a small portion of western Virginia. The three women identified below are all U5A1h+16189 and lived in the area of Pulaski and Rockcastle counties, Kentucky. This is NOT a surname project. Since the Rockcastle County courthouse burned down (twice!) and destroyed all records, our goal is to identify relationship and historical genealogies by analysis of descendant DNA.
