About us
This project is open to both men and women of any surname whose Mitotree haplogroup is U5a1h+16189 and whose ancestors lived in early 1800's Kentucky. At that time present day Kentucky also then included West Virginia and a small portion of western Virginia. The three women identified below are all U5A1h+16189 and lived in the area of Pulaski and Rockcastle counties, Kentucky. This is NOT a surname project. Since the Rockcastle County courthouse burned down (twice!) and destroyed all records, our goal is to identify relationship and historical genealogies by analysis of descendant DNA. The three women are mtDNA U5a1h and all were located in early 1800's Kentucky, USA.
