Slave Ancestors of the Del-Mar-VA
This group will allow people with slave ancestors who lived in the Delaware - Maryland - Virginia region to compare DNA to look for genetic relationships.
People moved during those times due to marriage, land grants, inheritance, being sold to another owner, obtaining their freedom, etc.
There will be comparisons with people outside of the Del-Mar-VA.
The goal is to have an ancestor that, at some time, lived in the region so that the possibility of a connection exists.
The family you grew up with (your 'Natural' family) - the people that find you in their family trees based on relationships.
You come together as family at weddings, funerals, reunions, birthdays, etc. Without DNA comparison, you would have accepted this person as family.
The family of your genetics (your 'Genetic' family) - the people whose DNA you carry.
This is so very important because you may find that an ancestor was part of your 'natural' family, but someone else was your 'genetic' ancestor in that same role.
This project will look at the genetic connections. Its purpose is not to change established or future family relationships.
