The surname potentially occurs as many variants, including DeArmond (the variant used hereafter), d'Armand, D'Armond, DeArman, DeArment, DeArmon, Dearmont, Deyarmie, Deyarmon, DeYarmon, Deyarmond, Dorman, McDearmond, McDermid, McDermott, and likely several others. Though some histories suggest the name may devolve from the French surname d'Armand de Chateauvieux, there is currently no known documented evidence of this connection. Please note that in order to join this project, the Y-DNA test participant must ALWAYS be a MALE who either (1) descends in an unbroken male-to-male line from a DEARMOND male ancestor or (2) has reason to believe he descends from such an ancestor. Female DeArmonds do not possess the Y chromosome required for Y-DNA testing, and are therefore not directly eligible for DeArmond surname genetic research; but we are very interested in Y-DNA results for your male DeArmond relatives!
