About us
The DeMontbrun DNA Project is managed by The Jacques Timothe’ Boucher Sieur de Montbrun Heritage Society. This is a non-profit historical society chartered in Tennessee to promote awareness of and appreciation of the colonial history of Middle Tennessee and to Timothy DeMontbrun / Demonbreun as the "Father of Nashville."
Information on the society is available at https://timothydemonbreunsociety.com/
Timothy's great-grandfather came from France to New France (now Canada) in 1635. Timothy was born in 1747. He would become a learned nobleman, a wealthy fur-trader, a Revolutionary War spy, a lieutenant-governor of the Northwest territory, and the “Father of Nashville.” Timothy had two families; one in Kaskaskia, Illinois, with his Catholic wife Therese; and one in Nashville with his companion, Elizabeth Hensley Bennett.
Both families included sons who have living male line descendants for Y-DNA tests. Any living descendants of daughters of Timothy through the direct female line can help the family learn more through a mitochondrial (mtDNA) test. Family Finder (autosomal) tests can provide links between the cousins, including those not in a direct Y-DNA or mtDNA line.
