About us

April 14, 2021

Our Dallas Project is now listed among FTDNA’s Surname projects and easily found using their search function. Let’s recruit members and expand our base. Invite your Dallas matches at any testing company to join us. FTDNA accepts transfers and doesn’t have annual membership fees!

The administrator changed the Y-DNA results matrix to reflect genetic relationships. We want to use DNA test results to PROVE our Dallas kinship and provide evidence for prior genealogical research. Therefore the Y DNA grouping is no long based upon where people think they belong in "The Family of Dallas" book by James Dallas.

The DNA Results matrix was reorganized using an advanced program developed by David Vance which calculates the mutation rates of individual STRs instead of assuming these mutations all happen at regular intervals. Therefore, some testers who only tested at Y37 can now be grouped. Other kits are more isolated awaiting new members.

Our project was renamed "Dallas Family Project" to make it easier for people to discover us. It had been alphabetized under letter 'F' and is now found under letter 'D' in the surname project list.

August 2023

Recruiting email sent by FTDNA to every Dallas or Dallis in their database, as follows:

"The Dallas Family DNA project began in late 2015. Our goal is to connect current Dallas families to historical Dallas lineages. Dallas was a small independent Scottish clan living near Inverness with connections to the Mackintoshes, Clan Chattan, the lairds of Cawdor and Kilravock.

This project is for anyone of Dallas descent, anyone with Dallas in their direct line, or anyone with a Dallas name variant (Dallis, Dellis, Dolas, Dalhouse, Dallace, etc.)  Men and women with paternal or maternal Dallas lines are encouraged to join and provide their pedigrees.

To date, we have identified Thomas Dallas (b.1700 Edinburgh, d. 1756 VA) as the immigrant ancestor of the Virginia Dallases using Y-DNA testing. Unfortunately no male descendants of George Mifflin Dallas the 11th Vice President have tested.

Many of us trace our families a few generations before the trail dies out, therefore DNA testing is our only recourse. More Dallas men are needed to do Y-DNA testing!! Please consider joining our project."

The DNA results matrix was reorganized once again as a result of new Y test results and FTDNA’s new Group Time Tree.
