About us
The main goals of the Cypriot DNA project are the following:
- Determine the Y-DNA and mt-DNA haplogroup composition of the Cypriot population
- Determine the genetic ethnic admixture (ancestry composition) of modern day Cypriots
- Determine regional differences in Y-DNA and mt-DNA haplogroup distribution and identify genetic population clusters within the island
- Link the presence of specific DNA haplogroups among the Cypriot population with specific historic events (migrations, occupations, wars, etc.) that occured during the past centuries
- Identify genetic similarities and differences between the different ethnic groups of Cyprus, namely the Greek Cypriots, the Turkish Cypriots, the Maronites, the Armenians and the Latins
