About us
1. To determine the relationships between the male lines of Cust in Ireland.
2. To determine the genetic relationship between the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Cust families.
3. To determine/prove other lines of direct male descent from Joceus le Flemangh.
4. To determine if there exists any genetic relationship in the male line between the surname Cust and etymologically similar surnames: Cast, Cost, Coste, de Coste, Coust, et al (C*st).
There are no restrictions or special permissions required to join the Cust DNA Project / Joceus le Flemangh DNA Project. However, in order for your DNA to contribute directly to the objectives of the project, the following are the specific tests needed:
-
If you are a man descended in the male line from a Cust or one of the variants (your father’s father’s father’s father, etc. was surnamed Cust), your Y-DNA can contribute to one, several or all four objectives. Men will need to take at least the Y67 test. https://www.familytreedna.com/y-dna-compare.aspx#
-
Men or women - for objective #1 only, men or women descended from any individual (male or female) surnamed Cust can take the Family Finder test. https://www.familytreedna.com/family-finder-compare.aspx
