About us

2004: Early DNA results show that Johan Michael Grauel and Peter Craul are related. Johan Michael Grauel came to America aboard the ship Elizabeth in 1733 from Langenselbold, Hesse, Germany with his wife and two children. According to ships' lists the children died before arrival. Research in Langenselbold found that Johan Michael Grauel had an older brother, Peter, who also left there. Peter Craul died in Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1762, leaving wife Catherine and four sons: William, George, Simon and Dieterich. William served in the American Revolution and on his pension application said that he was born in Pennsylvania.

2005: Early DNA results show the Johan Michael Grauel, Peter Craul, and Jacob Crowl are all related. Jacob Crowl died at Chanceford Twp., York Co. PA in 1779. His wife and children then moved to Jefferson and Berkeley Counties in VA/WV.

13 January 2014: We added a new co-adminstrator, Les Tate, to help us improve the project website and pages. His wife is a Crowell/Grauel descendant.

17 Feb 2015: FTDNA changed some of the pages in all surname projects, however the tables of test results are still in the same spreadsheet format. The locations of the clickable text buttons may have changed from the top to the left side of the page, but the contents of the text pages remains the same unless edited by a project administrator. Lineages of the various lines, where such information has been provided by project members, can be viewed by clicking "About", then "Results".
