About us
Crimean Tatar DNA Project is for all those who have direct descent on their mother's or father's side from the indigenous peoples of Crimea (Crimean Tatars, Urums, Rumei, Krymchaks and Karaites) on their mother's (mtDNA) or father's (Y-DNA) side.
We also welcome in the project the Crimean Tatars of Budjak and Dobrudja, Noghais, the Polish-Lithuanian Tatars and the Crimean Tatars of Türkiye, as well as Turks who have a direct ancestor from Crimea/Crimean Khanate as a whole. Plus, we are glad to see all those who have a direct ancestor in the territory of the former Crimean Khanate (Crimea, Budzhak, Yedisan, Kuban, Cemboyluq, Taman).

If you have reason to believe you may have Crimean Tatar ancestry, but lack definitive confirmation, the project includes dedicated categories for such cases. Your participation remains highly encouraged, as genetic testing can provide valuable insights into your lineage.
How It Works:
— Men can test both their paternal line (Y-DNA) and maternal line (mtDNA).
— Women do not inherit the Y-chromosome, so to trace their paternal ancestry, they have to recruit a male relative (father, brother, uncle, etc.) from their direct paternal line.
— Family Finder (autosomal DNA test) is available to everyone, regardless of gender, and examines genetic connections across all ancestral lines. If one person from a family takes a DNA-test we highly recommend it to be father or brother.
