The Connemara Ireland Project is to encourage participationby all of those with an ancestral connection to the Connemara regions of westIreland. Members are welcome who testfor Y-DNA, mtDNA, and autosomal DNA. Public results will display family/surnames, Y-DNA and mtDNAresults The Connemara region has aboundary between City of Galway and the border with County Mayo and the portion of Galway Countywest of Lough Corrib. Through historyand the regions parishes, many different family names were present along with asignificant variation of DNA results. The opportunity for testers to join a geographic area project inaddition to surname projects will enhance a better understanding of theConnemara population and family development regardless of their DNA.
Connemara is comprised of about 13 Irish Civil parishes,three Electoral Districts, and over 16 Catholic and other religiousparishes. Each includes a wealth ofinformation on the historical occupants of Connemara.
