About us
As of 2024, 3 descendants of David Coltrane b. 1711, 1 descendant of John Coltrain b. 1767 and 3 descendants of Major Coltrain b. 1801 have done Y-chromosome DNA, to at least 25 markers. They all match, suggesting a common ancestor, possibly David Coltrane b. 1711.
7 descendants of John Coltrin b. 1743 have done Y-chromosome DNA, to at least 37 markers. They all match, suggesting that John Coltrain b. 1743 is their ancestor. They do NOT match the other Coltrane/Coltrain family group. They do match a Lane family of Virginia/North Carolina. Joseph Lane b. 1700 was living in Edgecombe county along with David and Mary Coltrane in the mid 1700’s.
Big Y DNA has been done on one Coltrin. This person has the same terminal SNP as 3 Lanes who all descend from Thomas Lane b. 1634. (See Group 11 of Lane project.) It has been suggested that the common ancestor is from a period of 249 to 432 years ago.
