About us

Hi Everyone:

My name is Carol Collins and I’ve taken over the CollingsDNA project as your new Administrator, now that WorldFamilies.net has shutdown.  Some of you may be wondering why WorldFamilies.net has shut down. Essentially, it’s due to concerns that the new European Union regulation that came into effect today called General Data Protection Regulation would adversely affect WorldFamilies.net. For more information, this is a good link:

Secondly, I want to discuss Family Tree DNA Access levels as what worked before no longer works.

1.      Project Level – this means that if you have Y-DNA results, they will show up somewhere – but where they show up is a good question.  As a Project Administrator, I won’t have access to kits and won’t be able to view your matches and to what haplogroups they belong.

2.      Limited Access – with all the changes, this is the option that now works best.  I recommend that all project members choose this option.  This allows administrators to see your Y-DNA results and matches. It also allows administrators to view family trees but nothing in individual profiles.

3.      Full Access – this option is mainly for those who need help editing their family tree and gives group administrators the ability to manage a member’s kit on their behalf. The only things this optiondoesn’t allow is modifying the primary email address and other project preferences for other groups.

This link gives furtherinformation on limited and full access:

I was able to take screenshots of Collings pedigrees and I’ve saved Collings Y-DNA results from WorldFamilies.net to my computer. Everyone is welcome to the project, no matter what access level or test type. In addition, with the new regulation, anyone at any time may request all data deletion.  I hope that we can all work together going forward.
