Our project's goal is to determine the extent to which individuals with the surname Cofield (variously spelled) relate to one another worldwide - genetically and genealogically.
 
This website has been created to bring together genealogical researchers of the Cofield line in an effort to determine the ancestry and roots of the various Cofield families.
 
Any bearer of the surname Cofield or its variants is invited to participate. Our project compares the unique Y-Chromosome (Y-STR) segments that fathers pass intact to their sons, which remain stable from generation to generation, with only minor, infrequent mutational changes.  Females may participate by convincing an Cofield-Surname male relative(grandfather, father, brother, uncle, cousin or nephew) to provide the requisite DNA as a representative of her line.
 
Primary Goals:
 
1)  Provide a place for Cofield family and related members to see their DNA results.
2)  Determine the haplotype of each Cofieldfamily
3)  Determine if the oral histories of each Cofield family match DNA results.
4)  Allow sharing of genealogical  family information.
