About us
Have you ever wondered if and how the Chapline, Chaplin, and Chaplain families are related? A goal of this project is to answer that question and hopefully gain a clearer picture of the connections between these families in America, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world. The Chapline Surname Y-DNA Project will identify the different Chapline family lines using Y-DNA, and help participants connect with cousins. Variations in the name including Chaplin, and Chaplain are welcome to join.
We encourage males to order a Y-DNA test with a minimum of 37 markers. FTDNA also offers a 67 marker test which is likewise recommended. If the cost is prohibitive there is a 12 marker test that can be upgraded at a later time. The 12 marker test can exclude family relationships, but more markers are required to have some confidence of reliably identifying close relationships.
