The purpose of the Chapline Surname Y-DNA Project is to identify the different Chapline family lines using Y-DNA, and to help the participants connect with cousins. Variations in the name including Chaplin, and Chaplain are welcome to join. We encourage males to order a Y-DNA test with a minimum of 37 markers. FTDNA also offers a 67 marker test which is likewise recommended. If the cost is prohibitive there is a 12 marker test at FTDNA that can be upgraded at a later time. The 12 marker test can exclude family relationships, but more markers are required to have some confidence of reliably identifying close relationships.
