About us
We now have results from our first four Y-DNA111 tests (two also having upgraded to Big Y-700). These show:
(1) One Challender of American origin (without knowledge of his European provenance), in the I1 Haplogroup, with SNP path I-M253>DF29>Z58>Z59.
(2) Three Challen(g)ers of North Somerset origins. Two of these clearly share paternal ancestry within the past 300 years or so*. They also share the path of (1) above down to Z58, which FTDNA's Discover suggests occurred about 2450 BCE, but thereafter they belong to the subclade of Z138. Much more recently they share the block of SNPs I-FTB75644 and I-FTB76357. Based on paper-trail research and genealogies pervading the internet, we had expected all three to share paternal ancestry well within a 'genealogical timeframe', but the third belongs to Haplogroup R-U106, and more specifically its subclade of SNP R-S1688. The conclusion already is that there are at least two patrilineal lineages among the Challoners / Challengers of the Clutton area.
* There is also a third tester, at the Y-DNA67 level, who is a close match to these two, but his kit has not been joined to the project.
