About us
As many of you already know, there exists a large volume of erroneous and in some cases completely false information concerning Cate/s family histories. Secondly, where reliable documentation exists there are large gaps in information and information which is nearly impossible to define the specific family member(s) to which it refers.
The Cate/s “Family” is made up of a number of genetically different family groups. Among those groups are families who are related but at a substantial distance. Several of these groups share unusual markers but also diverge more frequently than would be expected of a single family. This study was created to explore and help define the various families and family branches within the Cate/s Y-DNA projects.
It will do so by groupings according to common and contrasting:
1.) Haplogroups
2.) Y-STR Values
3.) Specific SNP results
4.) Genetic distance tables
The combination of these tools and others will allow us to gain a clearer picture of the families and branches that make up the greater “Cate/s Family”.
PLEASE use the colorized version of the Y-DNA results.
Those family groups using the same color are all related but at some distance. Those using different colors may be related to other families but at a distance considered too great to be significant for close family relationships (greater than 500 years or 20 generations). The listed relationships will continue to evolve and shift over time as new information becomes available concerning interpretation of data. As always, documentation is the best evidence.
