About us
Our goal is to help Cantwell researchers identify others who are related and share our family genealogy.
Because surnames are usually passed down from father to son and so is Y-DNA, the project focuses on the the Y-DNA of our 13 male Cantwell members. The project also includes 5 non-Cantwell men and 6 women, all of whom have an interest in the Cantwell name.
If you are new to this site, here are some suggestions for exploring it:
1. Start by looking at the menu to your left and select Activity Feed. There you will see a tree diagram that illustrates how the men of this project are related to each other, and how they are not related.
2. Next select DNA Results from the left menu, then Y-DNA Results Overview. The Results Overview page shows some of the technical information yielded by the men's Y-DNA tests. I use the results and some other information to separate the Cantwell men into subgroups. The non-Cantwell men are left ungrouped.
The results Overview only shows men who have a Y "haplogroup" so unfortunately the women of the project are not shown, nor are a couple of the Cantwell men who do not have a Y haplogroup for various reasons.
Note: some of the members have opted to not be shown to visitors to the project who are non-members; however members who are logged in will see them. No one except administrators can see the first names of members. You can see the full names and e-mail addresses of your matches, but for that you must go to your FTDNA home page.
3. Next you may want to explore the tabs. Directly above this section are 5 tabs: Overview (this tab), Background, Goals, Results, Project Statistics.
