We are researching the DNA of people whose ancestors come from one of the 97 villages in the Province of Reggio Calabria in southern Italy. Of special interest to me is to get people from my own ancestors' villages of Gioiosa Ionica, Martone, and Grotteria into my database, so that we can discover the origins of our ancestors. However, anyone whose ancestors are from the Province of Reggio Calabria are welcome to join. Suggested tests: For men: A Y-DNA 12 or 25 marker test, to show the origin of your surname. For men and women: An mtDNA test (a full sequence test is best) to show the origin of your maternal line.
The link to order the test online is below. Family Tree DNA will send the kit to your house. The test is easy and painless: You simply swab the inside of your mouth with a Q-tip like swab and send it back to FamilyTreeDNA in the mail. In about 5-8 weeks, you will get an email with your results. If you have already taken a DNA test through National Geographic's Genograhic Project, and would like to transfer your results to this project, simply login to your National Geographic Account at www.genographic.org and you will be given the option to transfer to Family Tree DNA, where you can choose the Reggio Calabria DNA Project as the group to join.
