This group carries a marker discovered by Dr Jim Wilson of the University of Edinburgh in 2007. When found in northern Scotland, the Orkney Isles, the Outer and Inner Hebrides it is indicative of Scandinavian origin. The group has genealogical matches with the chiefly line of the MacNeils of Barra, McMullans from South Uist, Buies from the Isle of Jura and Carmichaels from the Isle of Lismore. Other Caithness matches not in the project includes McKain from Wick.
