About us
The purpose of this site is to profile The Brigantes, a loose confederation of Celtic tribes, recorded by the Romans in 40 BCE, as occupying the north of England and probably taking their name from the Celtic goddess Brigantia.
The late Warren Whiteside did tremendous work in setting up this original site. At that time we believed that the Brigantes originated from Hunter Gathers who had made their way up from Spain after the last ice age; however, with SNP testing, this has been proved not to be the case and we all appear to descend from a Celtic Tribe who travelled up the Danube from the Black Sea during the 4th century BCE.
