About us
November2021; I have almost completed updating these pages. The late Warren Whiteside did tremendous work researching and setting up this site, but with the greater use of SNP testing and the results from SNP Tracker showing where and when our ancestors lived, an update has been necessitated.
What do I know about family history and DNA?
Well, I was 15 years old when I first saw and copied my Langley family tree. This means I have been researching it on and off for over 65 years now.
Names have been crossed out, other names inserted, and the devastating finding, that not just once but twice my origins were not what I thought.
DNA testing, which I first did over 20 years ago, has provided a solid base for me to work on; and I hope for you as well.
Although I live in Ireland, I have paid almost 10 visits over the last 12 years to that area of northern England that we come from. Mainly the town of Middleton which was the Manor of Middleton in south Lancashire and contains an area called Langley which gave me the Langley name.
At Middleton I have been able to meet and discuss family and history with the local historians.
Trips across Yorkshire and up to Durham were also included although a journey up the west coast to include the Lake District was a disaster as I did it at the height of the tourist season; a trip up to Hadrian’s Wall and an area called Whiteside last year had to be cancelled thanks to the virus.
I hope this site is a start for your own research and you can help us add to it.
