Several Brazilian historical figures had an important role in the construction of the Brazil history and population which currently comprises more than 215 million individuals. Many of those figures have had an enlarged offspring, thus it is of interest to identify their descendants to support and provide additional research data for the individuals performing their genealogical family trees.
In one hand, the characterization of Y and mitochondrial DNA haplogroups of the “Brazilian Founders” descendants permit to disseminate the interest of matriarchal and patriarchal lineages to help identifying the missing bricks of a genealogical tree. Popularizing those powerful genetics tools which also permit genealogical analysis/research that is beyond the timelines provided by the historical available records (or which may be limited to the creation of written communication and/or could be unfortunately compromised or destroyed). On the other hand, also motivating the Brazilian community to perform full Y-DNA and mt-DNA exams using FTDNA.
There is no existing public and organized data base that identify the Y-DNA and/or mt-DNA haplogroups of historical personalities in Brazil. The aim of our group is to identify descendants of such personalities; confirm documented lineage recordings and further characterize their Y-DNA and/or mt-DNA haplogroups. The availability of such data base will permit then to the “common” Brazilian individuals to rely on this data to perform/perfectionated her/his research by correlating their own haplogroups with those confirmed/suspected from patriarchal/matriarchal historical personalities. Thus, we also aim to establish collaborations to diffuse and divulge the investigations and hypothesis of other groups and individual researchers that corroborate with the research of our group (see link tab).
“History Tracers” (https://historytracers.org/) contribute to publications at Brazilian Founders at the tab “links”, please refer to the section Sharing area - Partners investigations & collaborations - by Thiago F. T. Da Silva Marques.
All the individuals becoming a new group member are kindly requested to modify certain parameters at their FTDNA profile page under their “Account Settings” as follow:
“Genealogy” => update their “surname list”.
=> provide their “earliest known ancestors information”.
“Project preferences” => modify “Group Project Administrator Access” to
1) “Group Project Profile”; set “on” for “Opt in to Sharing”.
2) “Coding Region Sharing”; set “on” for “Opt in to Sharing”.
