About us

The BLIGH-BLY DNA Project is open to all who are interested in finding common links with other who share variation of this name. This would include BLIGH, BLY, BLYE, BLEY and BLEI. Some Bligh and Bly(e) families originateD in Britain, and may also have at one time been BLYTH(E). There were Blighs and Blys of English ancestry in New England from very early. Bley and Blei are German names but in America many descendants of eighteenth century Bley immigrants anglicized the name to Bly(e) and even Bligh. There are also Bly families of Norwegian origin in parts of the United States, Canada and Australia. There are also a number of African-American Bly(e) families throughout the US.
Joining the BLIGH-BLY DNA Project could be very helpful to verify relationships with individuals who share variations of this surname.

Females do not carry their father’s Y-DNA and acquire a new surname by way of marriage, so the tested individual must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father’s father’s father’s…) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 marker test.

Females who would like to check their direct paternal line can have a male relative with the BLIGH surname or a variant of the surname BLIGH order a Y-DNA test.

Females can also order a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) test for themselves such as the mtDNA or the mtDNAPlus test and participate in a mtDNA project: Females and Males can join one mtDNA Lineage Project that research individuals that have or suspect having the same maternal line and or one mtDNA Geographical Project to verify a possible point of origin for the maternal line:
