About us
The BLICK DNA Project is open to anyone who has an ancestor with the surname BLICK (and other surname variants) in their family tree. Therefore, we invite both males and females who have BLICK ancestors to join the Project.
In order to try to identify the origin of the BLICK surname, direct male descendants of a BLICK (male) ancestor are encouraged to Y-DNA test. The surname was believed to have originally been BLIQUE and of Huguenot descent - these ancestors had been forced by the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 to leave Flanders in order to escape religious persecution.
One goal of the Project is to identify descendants of BLICK families including those who immigrated to Nelson, New Zealand from villages around the town of Stroud, Gloucestershire. As well as establishing links between BLICK descendants who remained in England.
According to research undertaken by members of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists and other genealogical records, the BLICK families that immigrated to New Zealand were descendants of Robert BLICK and Mary COOK, and their two sons Thomas BLICK1 and William BLICK2.
1. Thomas BLICK married Jane STEPHENS or STEVENS. Their son was William BLICK who married Ann SMITH.
2. William BLICK married Mary BEVIS. Their son was David BLICK who married Ann CRITCHLEY.
