About us

Rev. 0, October 21,2013

Initially the goal of this project is to gather atDNA results from extended family lines thought to be associated in some way with descendants of John and Elizabeth Blanchet of Amelia County, Virginia in the early-to-mid-1700s.  Accumulating the results will make possible whatever comparisons may be useful—such as a comparison of shared segments of atDNA.  For example, if Person A and Person B show a matching DNA segment of significant size on chromosome 8, and Person B and Person C also show a similar matching DNA segment at the same location on chromosome 8, then it seems reasonable that perhaps Person A and Person C may be closely related—or in other words, all three persons are closely related.  Is that logical conclusion a certainty?  No—at least it hasn’t appeared to be so far.  But it can be hoped that as we accumulate more test results and better paper trails for our ancestral lines, and as we compare all surnames, we just may be able to determine with better confidence just who is related to whom through what connections.

Undoubtedly as we begin to pick up more members and share our thoughts, more goals will become obvious. As that happens, this section will be updated to reflect the growth.
