News – May 2022

It’s been a busy and exciting year for the Bickford DNA Project. 

The Bickford DNA Project uses new advanced techniques to solve Bickford lineage cases. The project uses a combination of atDNA, YDNA (37 marker and the Big Y700), genealogies from the Bickford Newsletter and the book by Fahnestock, 350 Years of Bickford’s in New Hampshire to solve cases that were considered “Loose Ends” with little hope of ever being connected back to their origins only a few years ago.   

The Bickford DNA Project is successfully using the Big Y700 to identify the “SNP Progenitor”. You can read about the University of Strathclyde’s work using the same methods here.

Lastly, I can’t write about Bickford’s without a shout out to the Bickford Newsletter and the founder of the Bickford DNA Project.

An immeasurable resource for all of us Bickford’s isn’t in our DNA or in a genealogical database.  It’s the Bickford Newsletter. Founded in 1989 by Mahlon Bickford, it’s the definitive source for anything Bickford. Mahlon has been rescuing Bibles, pictures, manuscripts, and artifacts for decades. He has diligently published his findings for the benefit of all of us. He also makes note of our special occasions and military families.  I wish every line I researched had a Bickford Newsletter and as a result, the wonderful readers I’m in contact with.
