About us

The Avars (Maarulal) are a Northeast Caucasian ethnic group native to Dagestan region in the North Caucasus (see link).
They speak the Avar (Avar-Ando-Tsez) languages which is simply the standard variety of Avar language 
(see link).
The Avar's languages form Avar-Andi-Tsez group within North-East Caucasian (NEC) language family (known also as Nakh-Daghestanian).

Avars are mainly composed of these three Y-DNA haplogroups:
- J1-Z1842, associated with Kura-Araxes culture (NEC);
- R1b-Z2103, associated with Yamnaya culture (early Indo-Europeans);
