About us

Thirty Seven Marker DNA tests taken by Kit 19374 Auman (b 1942 in Randolph County NC), a direct descendant of Andrew Auman (1762-1839), and Kit 19332 Orman (b 1938 in Terre Haute, IN) a direct descendant of Andrew Orman (1808-1879), a native of NC, produced perfect matches. This proved that the Orman families that settled Clay County, IN, in the 1830s were direct descendants of Andrew Auman (1762-1839) of Moore County, NC, and his second wife Mary Cagle. In the 1820s, Mary Cagle Auman moved with her 8 children and other relatives to Blount County TN, and thence on to IN in the 1830s. She left her husband Andrew Auman behind in NC. In both TN and IN, Mary Cagle Auman, her children, and their descendants spelled their name Orman--a phonetically derived misspelling of the Auman name that was often used in NC in the early nineteenth century. There are now six known branches of this family.

We have also proved the family descended from Philip Auman of Centre Co.,PA is not a member of the Auman's of Frederick Co., MD. If your interested in our project and would like more information, please be sure to contact our group admin or co-admin. and get the answers to your questions.
