The overall purpose of this project is to learn if/ how Astle(s) families in North America, England and elsewhere are related. So far we have tested male descendants of the two men named James Astles who settled in New Carlisle, Quebec in 1784 and have confirmed the two Jameses were closely related. We would now like to be able to identify a region of origin in England for these men. As one hypothesized origin is London, we would especially like to test Astle males with a good ancestral paper trail to London. We expect there may have been multiple origins of this name and invite participation from representatives of all variations of the name from different locations in order to identify different genetic groups in which various families can be placed.
