About us
The goals of this project are to:
- Identify descendants of William Frederick (Friedrich Wilhelm) Altevogt (1816-1862) and his wife Mary C. Altevogt (maiden name unknown) (?1823-1886).
- Identify descendants of Sophia Maria Siecker (Fritz) (1848-1927), who is the daughter of Catherine Louise Boberg (1822-1866) and may be the biological child of William F. Altevogt.
- Identify descendants of William’s siblings, including Herman Frederick (Hermann Friedrich) Altevogt (1821-1908), who settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the 1860s.
- Identify other Altevogt families in North America and Germany and determine whether they are related to William F. Altevogt.
- Identify descendants of William’s paternal grandmother Anna Catharina Gertraud Altevoigt (1753-1823).
- Identify descendants of William’s maternal grandfather Everd Jörgen Heinrich Hassmann/Haszman (1753-1815).
- Identify male-line relatives of William, who may have the surname Altevogt/Altevoigt or Lückener/Lueckener/Luijkenaar (the surname of his paternal grandfather, who married into the Altevogt family).
- Use Y-DNA to determine the haplogroup of William F. Altevogt and that of other men named Altevogt (or Lückener), and identify Y-DNA matches as part of an Altevogt surname study.
- Use mtDNA to determine the haplogroup of Mary C. Altevogt and Catherine Louise Boberg, and identify mitochondrial DNA matches with these lineages.
- Identify people who share autosomal DNA and X-DNA with known descendants of Mary Altevogt, in order to discover more about her origins (maiden name, place of birth, parents’ names).
