Background of the Allaluf genetic project
The Allaluf name may mean "the faithful" "the devoted". I have also heard translations of "biggest general" and "fat". And in Arabic: Seller of provender, foder.
Many Allalufs left Iberia during the edict of expulsion in 1492, settling in Ottoman regions, including modern day Turkey and Greece. Some believe Allaluf families have instead been in these regions continuously for nearly 2000 years.
So far, the very few Allaluf individuals that have been tested have a rare Y chromosome haplogroup (R1b1c) that originated in the Levant perhaps 7,000-10,000 years ago.
Let's see if the bulk of Allaluf and variant surnames have the same haplogroup before discussing the interesting migration paths of this haplogroup from the Levant.
